The Drew Barker-Wright Charity Website Redesign

About The Client

The Drew Barker-Wright Charity stands as a testament to love transformed into action. This family-run charity dedicates itself to raising both awareness and vital funding for rare childhood cancers.

Our partnership began in 2017 when Impact IT Solutions first collaborated with the charity to establish their digital presence and brand identity. After six transformative years of growth and impact, the time had come to reimagine their online home, one that could carry their mission forward to an even broader audience.

The Challenge

By 2023, the Drew Barker-Wright Charity had naturally evolved beyond its origins. What began as a deeply personal platform focused on Paediatric Chordoma, an ultra-rare childhood cancer, and Drew’s individual story had grown into something larger. The original website beautifully served its purpose: educating visitors about this devastating disease, sharing Drew’s journey, and creating a space where his parents could update their community on fundraising milestones.

However, six years of dedicated work had expanded the charity’s reach and refined their mission. The founders were ready to step back from the spotlight, allowing their broader advocacy work to take centre stage. The delicate challenge? Refreshing the entire digital experience while preserving the charity’s compassionate, gentle approach that had touched so many lives.

Objectives

Working closely with our client, we identified five core goals for the redesign:

Awareness & Education: Illuminate the warning signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, empowering parents and caregivers with life-saving knowledge.

Demystifying the Disease: Bridge the knowledge gap by clearly explaining how childhood cancers differ fundamentally from adult forms of the disease.

Funding Critical Research: Create compelling pathways for supporters to contribute to groundbreaking research initiatives.

Resource Hub: Establish a trusted information centre for families navigating a chordoma diagnosis.

Graceful Transition: Thoughtfully move the founding family’s personal narrative from the foreground while maintaining the charity’s authentic voice.

Our Solution

Through collaborative workshops and strategic planning sessions, we identified the essential elements worth preserving from the original site. We then architected new content structures and designed an intuitive, accessible layout that would welcome both returning supporters and first-time visitors.

The transformation resulted in:

  • Streamlined Homepage: A clean, impactful design that immediately communicates the charity’s core mission through concise, powerful messaging
  • Strategic Content Architecture: Thoughtful organisation that guides visitors to the information most relevant to their needs
  • Refined Visual Identity: A fresh colour palette and modern design language that feels both professional and approachable
  • Focused About Section: The charity’s origin story now lives in a dedicated space, allowing visitors to discover Drew’s inspiring legacy when they choose to, rather than as a prerequisite to engagement

Integrated Brand Experience

Our partnership extended beyond digital boundaries. Following the website’s successful launch, we translated the new design language into:

  • Professional email signatures for the founders
  • Print materials and stationery
  • Informational leaflets for community outreach
  • Branded apparel for fundraising events

Impact & Reflection

The redesigned website successfully achieved all strategic objectives through careful technical execution and user experience optimisation.

This project demonstrates our capability to execute sensitive brand transitions while maintaining operational effectiveness and achieving measurable improvements in user engagement and organisational efficiency.
